DePaul Inherits a Nugget

Durrell McDonald (6’2, 165 lb. combo guard out of Green Valley High School in Henderson, NV.) has committed to DePaul for the 2012-13 basketball season.

McDonald has a solid handle on the pill. He makes jumpers consistently, and he is very explosive in the open floor. With DePaul’s style of play McDonald should fit in nicely.

McDonald was given his nickname “Nugget” when his father said his head looked like a McDonald’s chicken McNugget when he was a child. McDonald’s father, Darryl, played at Texas A&M and was a long-time professional in Australia.

Player Spotlight: PF: Derek Willis

Derek Willis (6’9, 210 lb. power forward out of Bullitt East High School in Mount Washington, KY.) was once committed to Purdue in the Spring of last year but de-committed and re-opened his recruitment process in August.

Willis is a highly skilled power forward that can play the small forward position when needed. He rebounds the ball very well and he is capable of making a good outlet pass to jump start the fast break. Willis handles the ball and has good range on his jump shots from up to about 22 feet.

He is a Junior this Season and a member of the 2013-14 recruiting class, but he will make his announcement this Friday, January 20, 2012 on his school of choice. Willis is expected to decide among Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue and Indiana.
